EMORY HEALTHCARE ACQUIRES EMORY JOHNS CREEK HOSPITAL FROM HCA
HCA assumes full ownership of Eastside Medical Center in Gwinnett
July 9, 2010 – Emory Healthcare and HCA today announced a shift in the partnership first forged by the two healthcare organizations in 1998. Emory Healthcare will purchase HCA’s ownership interest in Emory Johns Creek Hospital and become the sole owner of that facility, and HCA will assume full ownership of Eastside Medical Center in Gwinnett County, according to officials of the two organizations.
“HCA and Emory Healthcare formed this partnership to build on their long-standing reputations for delivering quality healthcare services and to develop a new hospital in the growing Johns Creek community,” says John T. Fox, Emory Healthcare president and CEO. Fox was joined in making today’s announcement by Larry Kloess, president of HCA’s TriStar Division with hospitals in Atlanta, Northwest Georgia, Tennessee and South Central Kentucky.
“The relationship between Emory Healthcare and HCA has always been very amicable and mutually respectful,” said Kloess. “Our organizations share a deep-rooted commitment to delivering the very best possible healthcare services and we will work collaboratively and effectively to ensure a seamless transition for employees and physicians, and certainly with no disruption to our patients.”
“Since its opening in 2007, Emory Johns Creek Hospital has established an outstanding reputation as a quality healthcare provider and this transaction will expand and enhance our ability to deliver community-based healthcare to this rapidly growing and diverse segment of metropolitan Atlanta,” said Fox. Emory Johns Creek Hospital President and CEO John Quinlivan says that the hospital will continue to serve its community and support the community physicians who have been vital to its growth and development.
“These are outstanding physicians who know, first hand, the needs of this area and who, equally with the hospital, are unwavering in their focus to provide patients the highest quality of care with the utmost service,” said Quinlivan. “This is our mission. Kloess said that Eastside Medical Center has an outstanding reputation for delivering quality healthcare services and remains a very strong component of HCA’s long-standing presence in Georgia. Eastside Medical Center will continue to effectively serve the healthcare needs of Gwinnett County and the surrounding areas, he said. “Eastside Medical Center is in the midst of a multi-phase expansion that includes the construction of a new medical office building on the hospital campus and a $12 million emergency department expansion,” said Kloess. “In May, Eastside also opened its new all digital outpatient imaging center in Loganville.”
Fox said the two organizations will work together to facilitate employee communication to provide information about the transition of payroll and other benefits. Fox and Kloess said they expect no immediate changes in executive leadership at either facility.
The transition of ownership for these two Atlanta hospitals is expected to be completed within the next several months.
